Arrangements and understandinge on the basis of which

the British Goverment are prepared to recognise the

velidity of the Chinese Nationality Laa.

1.

British subjects of Chinese ruce who also

possess Chinese nationity, on arriving in China, may

be registered at the British Consulate for a period

of six months. The British Consul will communieste

the names of persons se registered to the Chinese

authorities, end the British Authorities will protect

thom and exercise jurisdiction over them so long sa

British extre-territorial rights continue. At the end

of the six months' period the registration at the uritish

Consulate will be cancelled unless in the meantime the

ind.vidual in question has obtained from the Chinese

Authoritien a certificate of denationalisation.

British subjects of Chinese race who pay occasional

visits to China mey be registered and receive prote0-

tion during each each visit for a period not exceeding

six monthe, providing the registration is renewed on

each return to Chins.

British subjects of Chinese rɛce at present

registered et o british Consulete will be allowed a

period of six months within which to obtain certifi-

oates of denationalisation. At the end of this period

the registration of those who have not obtained such

cert ficates will be anealle and the British

Authorities will no longer claim the right to

protect and exercise jurisdiction over them.

In general the British author.ties will not

claim the right to protect and exercise jurisdiction

over any British subject of Uhinese rase unless the
